Dr. Jim Sam is full time faculty of Siena Heights University and serves as the Program Coordinator for the Community Services Degree.  He has been with SHU since 1994, teaching in the social and behavioral sciences as well as the religious studies department.

Dr. Sam holds a Ph.D. in Human Services from Capella U., an MSW from the U. of Michigan, a M.A. in Counseling from Oakland U., and a M.A. in Theology from the U. of Detroit.  He has worked in the mental health and substance abuse treatment fields for over 30 years.

Jim is an Assistant Professor of Management and has taught for Siena Heights since 1999.  Jim is also the Distance Learning Coordinator for SHU's College For Professional Studies, a certified online instructor and the developer of this web site.

Jim comes to SHU from IBM where he retired after working 30 years with that I/T firm in a number of management positions in marketing, consulting, education and technical support with national and international assignments.

Jim earned his BS degree from the University of Detroit and his MA from Siena in Human Resource Development.

Mike is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the College for Professional Studies at Siena Heights University, and supervises the Liberal Art Studies program within the College for Professional Studies. He has taught at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Hillsdale College, and Central Michigan University.

Mike received his M.A. in Philosophy at the University of Michigan and his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Carol Himelhoch is Associate Professor of Management and Organizational Behavior at Siena Heights University. She earned her Ph.D. in management and organizational behavior, an M.B.A. in management, a M.A. in higher education, and a B.A. in Communications, from The University of Michigan.

Carol has extensive management experience in manufacturing operations (Kelsey-Hayes and Industrial Tectonics), marketing and advertising (Account Executive: Dominos Pizza account) and retail marketing (Himelhoch's and Winkelman's). She has been active in consulting since the mid 1980s and is co-owner of NeoLogix, LLC (www.neologix-llc.com).

Tad (Thomas) Dunne grew up in Detroit and currently lives in Royal Oak.  He earned a doctorate from St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto and went on to teach courses in philosophy and theology at Regis College, Toronto; University of Detroit; and Marygrove College.

His special interests are in ethics, art, method in theology, and spirituality. He has also published several books and many articles in these subjects.

Michael Solan, MS

Mike, born in Dublin, Ireland, teaches a number of marketing classes for the Metropolitan Detroit Program of CPS. He originally came to Detroit to launch WLLZ-FM Radio “Detroit’s Wheels.” His official title was Vice President & General Manager.

After WLLZ, Solon became CEO of his own broadcast marketing company. Prior to a career in broadcasting and marketing, Mike was involved in Education. Mike is still an active participant in both the telecommunications and broadcast industry.

Mike earned his BS degree from Lemoyne College in Syracuse, New York and his MS from Syracuse University.

Hello, I am Christina DeLand and I earned my Masters in Counseling Education/Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University in 1992.  I have taught 10 sessions for Siena Heights University at the Lansing Campus.  Some of the other classes that I teach are PSY 360, 431, 441, and Soc 350.
 

Richard Deighton, MSW HCM440 Dick has been an adjunct professor at Siena Heights for four years teaching both Bachelor's level and Master's level courses.  He holds a MSW from the University of Michigan, a Masters in Theology from the University of Detroit and a BS in Philosophy and Social Sciences.

Dick has have over thirty years of post Master's Clinical and Administrative work in the Behavioral Health field. His work has included health care, mental health, addictions, and developmental disabilities programs.

Dick's work in a number of community health care settings in Southeast Michigan has included involvement in health care policy development and administration-including ethical policies and practice.

Dr. Lahav received his PhD in philosophy and MA in Psychology in 1989 from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He taught at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and at Haifa University in Israel, as well as in several colleges. His publications include two books on philosophical counseling, and more than 25 articles in professional journals.

After finishing his Masters at the University of Michigan, "Max" left the PhD program and began teaching at Siena's Southfield campus in
1990. He has also taught philosophy, Women's Studies, and Environmental Studies courses at the University of Michigan, The University of
Wisconsin-La Crosse, and for the last 10 years, Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

An avid runner and hiker, Max dreams of someday teaching online courses from a shack somewhere in the mountains of Montana. For the time being,
he has to settle for the hills of northeast Iowa, where he lives on 30 acres with his wife Kathy, and three teenage children.

Mr. Berger, President of Retail Centric Consulting, has extensive retail industry experience having served in management roles in both Information Technology and general retail operations. He focuses on the alignment of IT and business strategies to maximize value from IT investments. Prior to joining Retail Centric Consulting, Larry served as Executive VP, Administration for Women’s Specialty Retail Group, CIO for WSRG and Dick’s Sporting Goods and various positions with A&S/Federated Department Stores. Larry was also Vice President of CFT Consulting and Director for Answerthink Consulting’s Retail Solutions practice. Larry has served on the National Retail Federation Information Systems Board, was a founding member of both Specnet and Retex retail consortiums, and has presented at both regional and national conferences.

Gail Ryder received her Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wayne State University and her Bachelors in English Education from Michigan State University. She has taught Advanced Placement Language and Composition as well as American Literature, Women's Literature and Film Studies.  Additionally, she has designed and conducted workshops on creativity and writing for educators around the country. Gail also provides online tutoring in composition.  In her spare time, she is a multi-media artist, writer, and gardener.

Alan earned a BA majoring in Chemistry and a MBA majoring in Marketing from Columbia. Alan's work experience included marketing positions with Corning Glass Workstical Products and a variety of managements positions with Jacobson Stores. Alan has taught a number of years teaching In Ann Arbor, the University of Phoenix and American Intercontinental University. Presently, Alan is Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch in Fort Myers, Florida. As a member of a Group I utilized our Business Financial Services to provide the loans and other financial services needed by corporations throughout the United States. My partners provide Wealth Management Services to our clients.
 
John Fick, Ed.D., MS HCM301 HCM444 MGT302 MGT452 John Fick is a full time faculty member at Siena Heights University.  In addition to serving as the Program Director for the graduate program in Health Care Administration, he is also the Coordinator of the undergraduate Health Care Management minor offered through the College of Professional Studies.  His teaching load typically includes classes in health management, leadership, and strategic planning.

John earned his doctor of education (Ed.D.) degree through Argosy University/Sarasota.  In addition, he has earned a M.S. degree from the School of Medicine, Wayne State University.  He received his B.S. degree from Madonna University.

John is board-certified in healthcare management by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and currently serves on the Regent's Advisory Council / Board of Trustees for the Michigan Health Executive Group and Associates (MHEGA).  John has worked in the healthcare industry for over 30 years and continues to maintain an active consulting practice. 

Barbara Alpern, PhD BAM441

Barbara Alpern, Ph.D., is Professor and Chair of the Communications and Marketing Department at Walsh College. She received her Ph.D. from The Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at the University of Michigan.

Her courses include business writing, oral presentations, and computer-based research. As part of their communications and marketing coursework, students learn global business practices, etiquette, ethics, and human relations skills. In addition to teaching, Barbara is a communications and marketing consultant.

She and her husband, Irwin, have three children, three grandchildren, and a dog.
